Our famous prediction contest is back!

The 2011 World Championships start next Saturday (August 27) and we're rolling out our world-famous prediction contest a week early so you'll be all ready to go when the action starts.

How It Works
The process is quite simple. On the next few pages, you will pick who you think will get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each running event including the relays plus the high jump, pole vault, long jump, multis (decathlon and heptathlon) and men's shot put. Inevitably, some competitors may drop out at the last minute or your buddy may call you with inside info and you'll want to change your picks. We have a feature that allows you to change your picks up until about 10 minutes before a particular event is scheduled to start. Also you don't have to fill all of your picks at once. For those of you who work for a living, this is a very important feature. We know you can only fool your boss for so long and make it look like you are actually doing some work, so now you hopefully won't get fired for participating in the contest. You can partially fill the bracket out and then come back later. Also by getting the contest up on a weekend, we've made it so fewer of you will have to fake it - fake that you are doing work.

Even if you know very little about some of the foreign competitors competing we have produced a very detailed form chart to help you out.

Scoring

The scoring is as follows:

  • Each person that you correctly pick to finish in the top 3 = 1 point
(It doesn't matter if you actually get the pick exactly right. If you pick someone for 1st and they finish 3rd you still get the point. Vice versa is true as well. If you pick them to get third and they get third, it's still only one point.)
  • Each event winner picked correctly = 3 more points (you pick someone for first and they get first)
  • Each event picked perfectly - All three picks: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the right order = 2 more points (here the order is key)

Do you understand the rules fully? The following example should explain any questions you have. If you pick 1st, 2nd, and 3rd correctly in any event in the proper order, it is 3 points (1 point for each person in the top 3) + 3 points (for getting the winner correct) + 2 points (bonus for perfect pick of top 3 in order) = 8 points.

The more points the better.

Now For The Prizes:

Perfect Ballot: $200,011 A perfect ballot means you pick the top three in the correct order for every event for both sexes - doing it for just one sex doesn't count as a perfect ballot. 1 winner maximum. If more than 1 person has a perfect ballot, the winner will be selected by random drawing. The $200,011 will be paid out over 5 years.
Perfect Track Distance Ballot (Both Sexes):
$20,011 A perfect ballot means you pick the top three in the correct order for the 800, 1,500, steeplechase, 5,000, and 10,0000 (marathon not required) for both sexes - doing it for just one sex doesn't count as a perfect ballot. 1 winner maximum. If more than 1 person has a perfect ballot, the winner will be selected by random drawing. The $20,011 will be paid out over 2 years.
Perfect Track Distance Ballot (One Sex):
$10,000 A perfect ballot means you pick the top three in the correct order for the 800, 1,500, steeplechase, 5,000, and 10,0000 (marathon not required) for either the men or the women. 1 winner maximum. If more than 1 person has a perfect ballot, the winner will be selected by random drawing. The $10,000 will be paid out immediately.

1st Place: 4 PUMA Faas 550 Lightweight Trainers + $150 Roadrunner Sports Gift Certificate

The Faas 550 is PUMA's new lightweight neutral trainer that just came out in the US on August 1st. It looks like it's so light that even Usain Bolt is stunned. As PUMA or Bolt might say, "Less Weight, More Faas."

More info on the PUMA Faas 550 can be found at PUMA's website. PUMA is so confident you'll like the new shoe that they are offering you a risk-free 30 time "PUMA Time Trial" if you order from their site.

Or click here to Get 10% off on the Faas (or any order) and free shipping from our partner RoadRunnerSports. RRS always has a 30-day return policy.

PUMA Faas 550

2nd Place - 2 PUMA Faas 550 Lightweight Trainers + $75 Road Runner Sports Gift Certificate

1st Place In The Largest Group - 2 PUMA Faas 550 Lightweight Trainers
You can play in a group against your friends. As an incentive for people to play in groups, we will give the winner of the largest group (when we cut off group entries) two pairs of the PUMA Faas 550s. So get a group of your friends together and please enter the contest.

"Mr. Or Mrs. Average" - 1 PUMA Faas 550 Lightweight Trainer
Playing in fantasy sports is always fun if you are doing really well but once your picks lose their luster, it can be a bit of a downer. As a result, we are going to take the person who finishes in the middle of the pack of all the entrants and give them a free pair of PUMA Faas 550s. Just like you don't have to be Usain Bolt to enjoy the benefits of the PUMA Faas 550, you don't have to be the best to 'win' our contest. The winner of this prize is the median finisher in our contest. If there are an even number of entrants like 10, we'll flip a coin between #5 and #6 to get "Mr. or Mrs. Average."

Group Scoring: Remember, you can sign up to play in a group and play against your friends. So please let them know about this contest as we want this to be the biggest one in our history.

Oh yeah, only one entry per person. No computerized/mechanical entries. I'm sure we should have a bunch of legal stuff here. How about this: your picks and your login name are not private and may be displayed on our website. And we're not responsible if the free contest gets cancelled for any reason including if our database crashes. We'll do our best to keep everything running smoothly. The top 3 in any event are final when we determine them at the end of the meet and this may not be the ultimate final top 3 (mainly due to drug busts in the future). Additionally, this contest is obviously void where prohibited by law, which states and countries that is - we don't know. Also you need to be of the right minimum age which we'll say is 15 to be safe. No purchase necessary. And yes we can win our own contest. If we beat you, you'll hear about it for sure. As for the prizes, PUMA the right to change the product if they're out of inventory and please understand that they won't accept exchanges for the prizes once they are sent out as it doesn't make sense for a 30-day free trial to apply to the winners of the contest as you got your product for free.

We have a guide to help you with your picks and are not responsible for any errors in the guide.
*And we'll try and keep events open until 10 minutes before each event but we're not guaranteeing anything.

(Please note: For tie-breaking purposes, we'll first look at the number of 1st places correctly chosen. If there's still a tie, we'll look at the number of 2nd places correctly chosen correctly, and then if need be, the number of 3rd places correctly chosen. If there still is a tie, we'll conduct a random drawing.)

Sound easy? Then get started
