Prefontaine Classic Ranked As #1 Meet in 2011 in Terms of Overall Performances

By Pre Classic
September 20, 2011

Eugene—With the 2011 Samsung Diamond League season concluded, the Prefontaine Classic had the best overall performances of any invitational meet in the world as adjudged by All-Athletics.com, the official ranking agency of the SDL.  Pre’s total of 86,857 Results points was higher than the 86,698 scored by runner-up Monaco Herculis. When Participation Score (the level of the athletes participating in the meet) is added in, Monaco is ranked No. 1 in combined score, with the Prefontaine Classic a very close second.
The performances at this year’s Pre Classic were extraordinary, especially given the early June 3-4 dates of competition. Starting with new world records by Moses Mosop in the 25k and 30k on June 3rd, the results over two days included:
  • 6 new Meet Records.
  • 12 world-leading marks out of the 24 events held over the two days.
  • The most-ever runners to break 27-minutes in one 10k race (9) and the most ever to do it for the first time (6).
  • Six men under 10.00 (legal wind) in the same 100-meter race for only the 3rd time in history, and the first time not in a global championships.
  • Five athletes under 3:50 for only the 3rd time ever. The Prefontaine Classic Field now can claim the 13 fastest mile races ever run outdoors in America, and 19 of the top 20.
  • Three shot putters over 70-feet a total of 4 times, adding to Hayward Field’s lead as the venue with the most 70-plus throws in world history.
The performances at the 2011 Pre Classic are unequaled by any invitational meet ever held on American soil. Perhaps only next year’s edition on June 2nd has a chance to surpass them. As one of the gateway events leading into the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials and London Olympic Games, the Prefontaine Classic will again feature the world’s best athletes.  “We anticipate having more Olympic and World Championships medalists participating than at any meet in U.S. history,” states Meet Director Tom Jordan
