Update on Brimin Kipruto Missing Zurich Steeplechase

By LetsRun.com
September 9, 2011

In yesterday's recap of Zurich Weltklasse meet, we asked if anyone knew why 2011 World steeplechase leader Brimin Kipruto did not run there.

Not only had there been talk of a possible world record attempt in Zurich (Kipruto had missed the world record by .01 in Monaco earlier this year), but if Kipruto had won in Zurich, he would have won the 2011 Diamond League title and $40,000 (plus an additional $10,000 for winning the race).

Instead Kipruto did not run, 2011 World Champion Ezekiel Kemboi won the race, and Paul Koech won the Diamond League title by finishing second.

We've learned from a source who wishes to remain anonymous that between Worlds and Zurich Kipruto hurt himself in is final workout (achilles injury is what the source said) so the Zurich race had to be scratched.
