Moses Masai and Vivian Cheruiyot Win World's Best 10k Titles as Masai Picks Up $35,000 for His Efforts

Moses Masai crushed 2009 road sensation Sammy Kitwara to win the World's Best 10k in a course record 27:19 in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Sunday. Kitwara who set the former course records (27:26) last year, finished in 2nd in 27:42.

Masai's run netted him $35,000 ($20,000 for the win, $10,000 for being sub 28 and $5000 for the course record).

Masai, the bronze medallist at 10k on the track last year, appears to be in fine form, but is not running World Cross Country this year.

On the women's side the race had a stellar matchup between world 5k champ Vivian Cheruiyot and World Half Marathon champ Mary Keitany. Cheruiyot pulled away to a 2 second victory in 31:07. Both women just missed the $10,000 bonus for a sub 31:00 clocking.

Dathan Ritzenhein entered this race but did not run.  Americans Jen Rhines (10th), Meghan Armstrong (14th) and Kassi Andersen (15th) did run on the women's side.
