Team for Kids: Transforming Lives Through Running

All of us at Letsrun.com know the power and joy of the world's simplest sport - running. To be frank, running makes our lives better. It can turn a bad day into a good one, it can help us focus at work, it can clear our minds, it can make us new friends, it can make us strive for more. Team for Kids is dedicated to funding programs that bring the benefits of running to low-income schoolchildren in New York, across the country, and in Africa. Most of these children have no access to regular physical activity or the kinds of after-school programming most of us grew up with. As a result, they are at risk for a host of diseases, more likely to suffer from low self-esteem, and more likely to struggle academically than their more-fit peers.

In a nutshell, Team for Kids is comprised of adult runners who receive guaranteed entry into some of New York City's most popular endurance events. These adults then fundraise to provide 80% of the funding required to provide free health and fitness programs to 100,000+ children each year. Fundraising commitments range from $750 for the February 2011 Empire State Building Run Up to the $2620 ING New York City Marathon. Team for Kids also offers entries into the March NYC Half Marathon and the August Nautica New York City Triathlon. The event is sold out? No problem if you're with Team for Kids.

In addition to entry into sold-out events, Team for Kids also provides training, topical clinics, fundraising guidance, and a team of 10+ coaches who are friendly, funny, and sure to help you reach your goals, regardless of your fitness or experience level. If you live in the New York City area, Team for Kids has training runs, but the program is open to people world-wide.

If a single event makes you think “been there, done that”, consider taking the TFK Trifecta Challenge and signing up for 3 of Team for Kids’ 2011 events to save 10-15% on your fundraising commitment while taking your endurance to new heights in the new year.
