Shot Putter Cory Martin Named USATF Athlete Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Cory Martin has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the men's shot put Saturday at the Tucson Elite Throwers Classic at the University of Arizona.

A member of Team USA for the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships, Martin unleashed a world-leading 22.10m/72-6.25 to win the men's shot put. His previous personal best of 20.82m/68-3.75 was set just a few weeks ago on May 1 at the Jamaica Invitational.

Elsewhere, 2009 USATF Masters Athlete of the Year Colleen De Reuck set a W45 American record Saturday in winning the Copenhagen Marathon in 2:30:51. Only six men finished in front of De Reuck and the runner-up in the women's race was over eight minutes back.

Reigning Olympic and World Outdoor bronze medalist David Oliver won the men's 110m hurdles in a world-leading 12.99 at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix. This is third time that Oliver has run sub-thirteen in his career.Now in its ninth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
