THIS WEEK IN CAL TRACK & FIELD: More than 700 athletes representing over 80 teams from around the world will convene at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley this weekend for the annual Brutus Hamilton Invitational. Events run all day Friday and Saturday and include the New York Road Runners Distance Carnival, which features eight Olympians running under the lights Friday night.
LIGHTS OUT: Once again, portable lights will be brought to Edwards Stadium for both university/open distance events and the New York Road Runners Distance Carnival Friday.
Starting at 8:25 p.m. with the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, the nighttime festivities also include the men's 3000 steeplechase, the women's 5000 and the men's Maxwell Family 5000.
At 9:35 p.m., the Distance Carnival gets underway with the women's 3000, followed by the men's 5000 and the men's 10,000. The top entrants in the Distance Carnival include:
