Emily Chebet, the 24 year-old Kenyan who was the surprise winner at the
IAAF Cross Country Championships last month, has signed a sponsorship
deal with adidas through 2011.
"Emily is excited to represent the adidas product and we believe that
she will continue to represent the company with top performances as
well as being an upstanding ambassador," said Chebet's manager, Scott
Robinson of the AmeriKenyan Running Club in Santa Fe. N.M., in a
statement.
To ensure that Chebet, who is married to 2008 Kenyan 10,000m champion
Edward Muge, gets the best possible representation globally, Robinson
said that his company would partner with Posso International
Promotions, of Tampa, Fla. That firm, founded by Luis Posso, had also
signed a management contract with Chebet earlier this year, but
Athletics Kenya general secretary David Okeyo ruled that Robinson was
the manager of record.
"We all have the best interest of Emily as our foremost priority, and
look forward to working together with event organizers to promote
enthusiasm for the sport of running," Robinson continued.
Chebet will run her first race since winning the world cross country
crown at the Lilac Bloomsday Run, the massive 12-K in Spokane, Wash.,
which will be held on Sunday.
"Emily plans to maintain a balance of track events, road racing and
cross country with the hopes of continuing to represent her native
country of Kenya in major international competitions," Robinson
concluded.
