LetsRun.com Honored at 2005 RRCA Awards Banquet
May 17, 2005

Yes, ladies and gentleman it is official, LetsRun.com was honored at the RRCA convention last weekend in New Orleans (a city that actually has a soul) with the 2004 Journalistic Excellence Award.

The RRCA flew LetsRun.com co-founder Weldon Johnson out to New Orleans for the annual RRCA convention and awards banquet. LetsRun.com's co-founder, Robert Johnson, was unable to attend, as he was busy coaching his Cornell squad (best mid distance program in the East Coast this year) at the IC4A championships.

At the awards banquet, 1992 Olympic marathon bronze medallist, Lorraine Moeller was the inspirational and interesting key note speaker. The highlight of the evening was when Steve Spence and Keith Brantly, two Dave Martin coached athletes, were inducted into the RRCA Hall of Fame (for a brief recap on Brantly's and Spence's careers click here). First up was 1996 Olympian in the marathon Keith Brantly, (bio here, his own personal website here) who gave a lot of the credit to his coach, Dr. Dave Martin. Steve Spence, 1992 Olympian and 1993 World Championship bronze medallist in the marathon, was unable to attend as he is the head coach at Shippensburg State, but Dr. Dave Martin spoke in his place.

Weldon Johnson (Wejo) picked up LetsRun.com's journalism award, but most of the night's awards were saved for the tireless volunteers who make the road runner clubs all across America tick. LetsRun.com is pleased to be honored by such a great group of people, who like ourselves are committed to promoting and improving the world's greatest sport, running. LetsRun.com would especially like to thank Tom Downing, head of the Awards Committee, Becky Lambros, RRCA Executive Director, and the members of the New Orleans Track Club who all made the event in New Orleans possible.

Ken Peterson got the spirit of the RRCA award. He's battled cancer for 10 years but still is promoting running.
