LAGAT HOPES FOR MORE MILLROSE MAGIC IN 2013

Bernard Lagat, the two-time Olympic medalist who won a record eight Wanamaker Miles, is hoping for more Millrose Games magic at the 2013 edition of the meet on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.
Lagat, 37, returns to America's oldest and most famous indoor track meet after setting a USA indoor record of 13:07.15 at 5000m at the meet last year. This time, he'll be trying for the American two-mile mark of 8:09.72 set last year by Olympic silver medalist Galen Rupp. Lagat used to hold that record, clocking 8:10.07 at the NYRR Deuce Challenge at the Armory in 2011, and he wants it back.
"Running in New York has always been a great experience for me," Lagat said through a statement provided by meet organizers. "I am really proud of my record at the Millrose Games. I am looking forward to running my best 2-mile ever indoors in February. I know there will be a good and knowledgeable crowd there and that makes it a lot of fun."
Lagat was pushed at last year's Millrose Games by training partner Lawli Lalang, the University of Arizona standout from Kenya who won the 2011 NCAA Cross Country title. Lalang, who ran an NCAA record 13:08.28 at Millrose last year, will also be running the two-mile this year, organizers said. Other athletes in the race include Canadian Olympian Cam Levins and reigning Atlantic Coast Conference 1500m champion Ryan Hill of North Carolina State.
"The Armory track produces great races and this should be another one to relish," said Armory Foundation Executive Director Norb Sander.
