The 3rd annual Bay Area Cross Country Challenge is this Sunday, January 13th, in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The race is put on by the Bay Area Track Club and is non-profit as all proceeds go to the Bay Area TC's after-school programs that teach kids about health/fitness, nutrition, and  Track & Field. Many elites will be racing including:

Women's 6k:

Magdalena Boulet - 2008 Olympic Marathon, multiple National Champion
Sara Crouch - 10th USATF Champs (32:57)
Alissa McKaig - Represented Team USA in 2011 World XC
Clara Peterson - CIM Marathon runner-up, RocknRoll San Jose 1/2 marathon Champ
Chelsea Reilly - US Road 10k Champion, Chiba Ekiden US National Team Member
Shannon Rowbury - 08 & 12 1500m Olympian, World Bronze Medallist

Men's 8k:

Cameron Bean
- 8:37 Steeplechase
Yosef Ghebray - 13:31 5k
Jonathan Peterson - 5th at USATF Club XC, 13:41 5k
Scott Smith - 28:33 10k, Multiple top-10 USATF finishes
David Torrence - 3:52mi, 13:16 5k
Brice Winkler - Pro Triathlete, member of 2010 US National Team in Duathlon

The meet also includes an interesting twist in that it will have team scoring. All participants (elites included) are randomly assigned to 5 different teams, each with it's own different colored bibs. After all 3 races have been run (Men's 8k, Women's 6k, Community 5k), the top two finishers in each race will score for their team. The idea is to encourage participants and fans to stick around after their race to watch and cheer on others on their team.

Participants can register for the race here and get more info from the Bay Area TC website here. Once registered, there is a promotion available (which ends Thursday) where the person who gets the most people to sign up using their personal promotion link will win a one night stay at the esteemed Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco for either the night of Jan 12th or the 13th.
