Organizers of [January 10th] PWN Halve-Marathon von Egmond in Egmond aan Zee, Netherlands, [were] forced to cancel the event because of the severe weather, including snow, expected in that region.  In addition, organizers said in a statement on their web site that they could not guarantee that they would have a sufficient ambulance fleet and other medical resources at the ready.

Egmond aan Zee is located about 30 km (19 miles) northwest of Amsterdam on the North Sea.

It would have been the 38th running of the unique half-marathon, part of which is run on sand dunes.  Last year's race, which had 9,072 finishers, was won by Kenyan Wilson Kipsang and Ethiopian Workitu Ayanu.
