Probably the most comfortable running shoe I've ever had, just to stand around in. The knit upper is very unrestrictive, which seems like a pro... but when I'm actually running, and for example, make a hard turn, I feel my foot moving in the shoe, because of the "give" of that knit upper. For that reason, I definitely can't run on uneven surfaces in this shoe, as my feet don't feel very secure. Also, it's a bit too cushy for my liking, but that is a personal preference. It has held up well, and looks nice.
I love that I can put these shoes on out of the box and go for a decent length run without worrying about breaking them in. They are lightweight enough for race days, but have enough cushioning for regular training days.
The wide toe box Altra goes in for is hardly stylish, but comfort is more important in a running shoe, so I am not going to complain about that too much. I do find the soles wear out faster than I expect up by the toes.
I love this shoe. Perfectly springy, fits like a glove. Extremely comfortable. Durable upper. Not a lot of support in the upper, though, so taking sharp corners is a no-go. I've taken them on trails before and it's generally a mistake -- not enough structure. Overall, though, a perfect road shoe.
Ran for a year in these and was surprised how great cushioning on the thin shoe was. The upper knit is strechy and very comfortable and is very breathable. Nice shoe and perfect for my flat feet
These shoes have allowed me to return to forefoot striking, which I was unable to do with other brands.
Great from the first step. I have 4 matching pairs that I rotate. Best shoe I had in a while
I bought Escalante last year, and have ran in it for around 600 miles. The shoes are amazingly light, yet provide enough cushion for various kinds of trainings. What’s more surprising about the shoes are the footshape technology, They fit my foot shape perfectly, and I seldom blister since I wore them.
This is a workhorse training shoe. I go for a 20 miler, Escalante, 8 mile training run, no brainer. It's comfortable for my feet, and it fits in well with my shoes. I want to run a tempo? Escalante. The shoe's cushioning maintains its structure for long miles. My typical training pace is between 6:30 and 7:30, so when I wore these to help a friend get through a 20 miler at 9:00-10:00 pace I wound up feeling the road due to time on feet. Typically though, I don't run for over 3 hours on roads, so I never wear this shoe past comfort. I like the soft fabric the shoe is made of, but it means that the shoe isn't really for the gym or for very rocky trails.
Love the shoe overall. Above average durability. I can use it in training and also 5k races as it is durable but also light. Only issue is the on the side of hills where foot will slide to left or right. Love this shoe! I already bought another pair to replace these when they wear out.
This shoe delivered me to my first marathon. Overall very satisfied with my TM and road runs. Not great for trail at all with uneven surface or rocks. I love the zero drop and wide toe box along with the soft upper. If this shoe had more rubber for a more firm sole to protect against Rocky terrain it would be perfect 10/10.
The Escalante feels great on your feet. The cushioning feels very responsive. Its light and very flexible. This shoe is great for someone who likes a neutral flexible feel with a soft base. Its a simple shoe with great basics.
It looks good with a nice flyknit like upper. This upper is also the source of my one gripe about the shoe. The upper is super flexible which is great unless you are making a sharp turn, in which case your foot slides to the edge of the platform.
I wish the shoe were more durable. After 250 miles the cushion had lost its responsiveness. The sole material had worn a bit more than I expected. That said the price is pretty good value overall so I don't mind replacing them sooner. The look good as casual wear too.
I love the foot shape of Altras. Being a 0 drop shoe you should definitely be cautious if your last shoe was above a 4mm drop.
This is a great shoe overall.
