Stockholm DL Podcast: Cooper Lutkenhaus Arrives, Audrey Werro Shocks Keely, Nuguse Wins Again

The Stockholm Diamond League was one of those meets that makes you stop and ask: did we just see the future arrive all at once?

Cooper Lutkenhaus ran and won his first-ever Diamond League 800 in 1:42.70, taking down a world-class field led by Marco Arop and instantly making himself one of the biggest stories in the sport, at the age of 17.

As Jonathan Gault said, “Matthew Centrowitz has never won a Diamond League. Cole Hocker has never won a Diamond League. Cooper Lutkenhaus has run one Diamond League, and he’s already got a victory.”

And yet, Lutkenhaus’ win may not have even been the biggest surprise in Stockholm. Swiss star Audrey Werro ran 1:53.98 to beat Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, the fastest women’s 800 since 1983. Suddenly the women’s 800 looks like one of the most exciting events in track.

Plus, Yared Nuguse went back-to-back on the Diamond League circuit, outkicking Australian teenager Cam Myers in the 1500. We break down what Nuguse’s win means for his Diamond League legacy, what happened to Kenneth Rooks in the steeple, look ahead to a loaded Oslo Diamond League, and debate the Diamond League Mount Rushmore.
