The below are Twitter reactions from Lauren Fleshman and David Torrence after the USATF Board of Directors voted 11-1 to replace Bob Hersh on the IAAF Council with Stephanie Hightower, ignoring the 392 to 70 vote by USATF membership which chose Hersh for the position. *MB: USATF Board overturns 392-70 vote, will instead nominate Stephanie Hightower for IAAF Council
Via Fleshman’s Twitter:
Turns out our @usatf board is full of shit (except one). Only one member voted with the OVERWHELMING constituent support of Bob Hersh.

A real leader understands when nobody wants you to lead them, and steps aside. #Hightower #USATF14

Athletes/Fans that may not know what happened today: USATF Members voted 392-70 in favor of Bob Hersh to remain as IAAF Council. (1/5) — David Torrence (@David_Torrence) December 6, 2014
USATF Board of Directors COMPLETELY ignored this overwhelming recommendation, & nominated Stephanie Hightower instead as IAAF Council. (2/5)

This is BAD for USATF members for 2 reasons. A) Bob Hersh was sitting as IAAF VIce President. Swayed IAAF policy 2protect US Interests (3/5) — David Torrence (@David_Torrence) December 6, 2014
Hightower nomination has NO guarantee of being elected IAAF Council, & IF elected, doesnt get Hersh’s former VP spot. Starts at bottom. 4/5

B) Hightower shows poor professionalism as President, & I ALONG with 392 other voting members, do NOT believe in her as IAAFcouncil. 5/5 — David Torrence (@David_Torrence) December 6, 2014
For USATF Board to relinquish the seat Hersh has earned over 16 yrs of serving as IAAF Council, after a 392-70 vote, DOESNT MAKE SENSE.
