Lanni Marchant Sets New Canadian National Record in Women’s Marathon – Runs 2:28:00 in Toronto

Sylvia Ruegger‘s 28 year old Canadian national record in the marathon of 2:28:36 from 1985 is history. Today at the 2013 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Lanni Marchant ran 2:28:00 to become the new national record holder.
Athletics Canada also is reporting that Krista Duchene “also dipped below the previous Canadian marathon record” with a 2:28:29.
In the men’s race, Deressa Chimsa of Ethiopia shattered the marathon’s overall record by running 2:07:05 to win. Flomina Cheyech of Ethiopia won the women’s race in 2:25:13.
