Competing for the second time this year at the 2013 Saavo Games in Finland today, 2009 world champion and 2012 Olympic silver medallist Caster Semenya picked up her second victory of the year, but also for the second time came nowhere close to the 2:01.50 time needed for IAAF ‘B’ qualification.
Semenya won today’s race in 2:04.48. Four days ago, Semenya won her season opener in 2:06.58.
Earlier this month, Semenya’s coach Maria Mutola had spoken optimistically about Semenya’s fitness as she said the following to the Sunday World, “I know people have been saying all sorts of things about Caster’s fitness, but she is going to silence them. The rehabilitation has gone well and we are happy with the training process. Caster will be back in action in Europe in two weeks.”
Semenya is running out of time to silence the critics and pick up an IAAF qualifier.
