This is the problem Nobby, being on the other side of the world !!!!
I was in the middle of work when I checked this and had to wait till I got home !!!

Your comments to Bug are very very much as I understand Arthur's interpretation.

Regarding Hotatlanta and Ohiomiler's question >

Interesting the figures you came up with because I dived into my own diaries and checked what mileage I did during track training.
It was between 60 and 70 miles a week,(depending on a few factors like my workload and if I managed to run over 20 miles every Sunday) so that fits pretty much with what you said.
I have never added up the actual mileage before that. I just did the work !!!!.

I also checked the mileage over the month I ran with Bill Baillie when he was preparing for the Masters Champs in Puerto Rico in 1983. Bill was 50 that year.
It was track training and what we did looked nothing like a "published" Lydiard programme.

Rich Englehart and Tinman are familiar with it as I discussed it with them last year.
We never actually added the mileage as we ran pretty much as we felt, even 'bagged' a couple of workouts because they did'nt work out. Picking them up either later in the week or just not bothering. On those occasions we just ran 'easily'
I still have the detail of the training and it worked out that we probably ran between 50 and 60 miles those weeks.
I have to point out though that we did not get hung up with what mileage we covered. Apart from the actual workout we ran what Bill felt was needed for the day. eg One day we had to do 10 X 100m. But the reality was we ran well over an hour on a Golf course, in there somewhere was incorporated the 10 X 100m on the grass track adjoining the Golf course.
Another time the same workout was scheduled but after we had done the 100's we met up with Barry Magee and the 2 guys started talking. How long we ran for I would not have a clue. Probably nearer 11/2 hours !!!!!
BTW : Bill was in touch with Arthur reasonably often during that time.
