I'm sorry, I don't see how this is racist:
It's not the worst thing anyone has written. But fine if you want to analyze it, on what basis does "nimbleness" make something perfect for East Asians? He also says "East Asia might be able to produce a world class but not elite sprinter" and that China might only be able to be successful through weight of numbers or wealth or genetic engineering. These are statements that create or subscribe to stereotypes about the innate abilities of a group of people. Isn't that racist?
Wikipedia's article on racism had this quote, which sums things up for me pretty well: "The ideology underlying racist practices often includes the idea that humans can be subdivided into distinct groups that are different due to their social behavior and their innate capacities as well as the idea that they can be ranked as inferior or superior."
You're also quoting a paragraph of discussion about the history of white sprinters, which I hadn't intended to comment on, but it does support my view that he injects race into discussions. On its own it might not be problematic but when it's half the posts by this individual?
I'm not bringing this up because I have strong opinions about this particular individual (and I think we should try to stop arguing about him here), but rather because I think it illustrates a point about the difficulties of moderating the site. I'm having trouble summarizing my thoughts on the issue, it's something like: 1. There was a thread discussing this issue in January that was deleted. 2. Malmo seems to be supporting it. 3. The employee(s?) seem to be unaware. 4. There isn't a good mechanism in place for handling these sorts of subtle problems, we can't just click "report post" and go through the recaptcha on every post we see when it's a systemic issue. 5. When things *are* brought to the attention of the moderators and staff the current mechanisms for handling them seem to be slow and ineffective.
Sorry if I come across as hyper-critical (believe me I'm more critical of myself than I am of anyone else), I guess I'm just sort of frustrated. I believe the moderation team when they tell us they're filtering out most of the crap, there just seems to be a lot of stuff that still slips by.
