My brother ran the first Peachtree. Went down the morning of and signed up. He was blown away when it started getting thousands of runners.

I bet few people know the world record for the road 10K was set there in 1996. It was an unseasonably cool day (like only 80--I was working the medical tent) and the Kenyan who won had not even made the Kenyan Olympic team...
I remember as a kid watching the first years. Back then you could just walk up to the starting line and mingle with the elite runners, particularly if you were a kid. What I remember, besides seeing Frank Shorter and Craig Virgin, are lots of hairy men with long hair and mustaches.
