Yes, that makes sense. It really boggles the mind how that could be remotely rewarding or satisfying. And how could someone get so addicted it that they'd do it over and over again over a period of years, dragging other people into it? Most people would feel ashamed and embarrassed after doing it once. But this guy? Quite the opposite. He just kept going bigger and bigger until he attracted too much attention.

The thrill of it all..there are many clues as to the “why”. Initially, to BQ for the 2008 Boston Marathon is my best guess. Then, as has been said, since people at work and elsewhere perhaps complimented him and some people maybe incorporated his exploits into their public relations and sales models....FM kept getting dug in more and more. Eventually perhaps he may have gotten hooked on the excitement of it. Perhaps the reason FM came across as very humble was partly because he knew that he really hadn’t done what he was being praised for. He may however, have actually been proud of his cheating skills. Bu that needed to be kept under wraps. Of course this is all guessing on my part. The only way to know the why is for FM to tell us why. And that would be dependent on us believing him.
