Not that simple. Many have negotiated accepting lower wages for better benefits. Suddenly wages won't go up to match what companies will be saving.
Also if you have good private insurance do you really want to risk your coverage with this plan. I don't.
Your first line about exchanging all of the dollars people and companies are paying and put that into medicare is pie in the sky. There is no mechanism for this to happen. And many will take advantage of this system.
And its a losing political stance......Harris realized this later after getting so much negative feedback on it.
