Matt Rizzo has currently run 2:59 and 1:50 this weekend, and I'd be shocked if he doesn't follow up today in the 800. If he runs 1:51 or faster, that is easily a comparable triple.
Shocked you must be, then, since Matt Rizzo did not run an individual race. His brother, Alex, finished 8th in the 800 in 1:53.91.
I can't disagree with you about Verzbicas. Don't know any others you vaguely referred to, however, so unless one or more are named, only Verzbicas's weekend extravaganza is in that lofty stratosphere of all-time off-the-charts greatness. Affolder's weekend was spectacular, but just not GOAT.
I am indeed. I'm not privy to their reasoning but I'd imagine he must have been worried about injury after running two events. He was entered in the open 800 originally but did not start. As far as other triples, unfortunately it's pretty rare for an elite athlete to triple at all, and so many of those results are hidden in relays that it's pretty much impossible to find them all. If you include girls and outdoor nationals, I'd point you to Ryen Frazier, but I just simply don't pay enough attention to remember any other great triples.
