My prediction: good or bad race, she will spend more time social mediaing about herself than she will preparing and performing
You think she posts more on social media then any other athlete? Having an online presence though social media and other marketing is ubiquitous. It's far more unusual for an athlete (or anyone who doesn't make money through sponsorship/marketing) to not have an online presence.
Also - how much time do you think it takes to post a picture on Instagram once a day?
I get that people are somehow upset about her bold goal of winning Olympic gold in 2020, but, what should a gold metal Olympic athlete wanting to try marathon make as her goal? She hasn't been too unrealistic about her abilities in any interview I've seen recently. Watch the one after her half marathon in Pittsburgh. She talked about her lack of mileage and the huge advantage everyone else had because of their years of putting in the mileage. It sounds liek she knows just how huge of a goal she set. I don't think she's got enough time to get to where she wants to be by 2020, but having committed to doing marathons, what other goal should she have set for motivation and sponsorship? Kinda seems like setting the ground work for 2024 to me, meanwhile attracting the media attention her sponsors will enjoy so she can continue to be paid to be an athlete.
