RE: Seattle runners. Cougar attack (fatality) in Washington: Same trail as the course used for downhill marathons?
I found myself in a staring match with a cougar, the lion variety, a number of years back. I was working on a golf course and at the break of dawn found myself spraying fertilizer on the 13th green. I'm on the back 1/3 of the green when I turn around and see a cougar slowly walking up the approach toward the green with his gaze fixed directly on me. He walked up just onto the fringe of the putting surface, stopped, and stared at me. I stared back, shaking like crazy because I was helpless, for what felt like twenty minutes (but was most likely a handful of seconds). Thankfully after a little while he turned around and walked away, off the course, and vanished into the desert.
