Advice: Mark off 14 weeks in your calendar right now for BASE. How many weeks does that leave you before the race?
Too hot, thanks so much for the thoughts. If I do the 10/21 marathon, the 14 week base would get me to mid-August. From there it would be 9 weeks to the race.
Your thoughts on the base build are right in line with everything I've been reading. And the pace you hesitate to use is right in line with my normal aerobic running pace from day to day. I think I will have no trouble building on that and sometimes squeezing the pace down when I feel good and want to go more 1/2 to 3/4 effort.
I like the idea of building hills into the base. I live in a moderately hilly area (lots of short climbs) and on any given day I can make a run really hilly. I will be sure to mix strides on flats and hills.
Definitely excited for this big base build. Got in 55 cruising minutes with a few strides this morning. Nothing huge, but Mondays are usually a 'zero' day, so I'm feeling good about it.
