"fast courses like ... Chicago"
This thread is pointless. Chicago is Sunday. It's fast. Fast guys are there. 2:02 guys, 2:03 guys. Rupp needs to show. I'll be here Sunday apologizing when he runs a 2:04 or 2:05.
I should have said Chicago pre-2015. Nobody is running 2:03/2:04 without pacers. I believe the fastest non-rabbited time is G. Mutai's 2:05:06 from NYC 2011. It is extremely rare that a non-rabbited race is won in under 2:07. So no, you won't need to apologize because Rupp will not be running 2:05 without pacers. But again, neither will anyone else.[/quote]
Why would he need to apologize at 2:05, or even 2:07 or 2:08 for that matter? Those aren't good times? Remember he's coming to the marathon distance late in his running career, he's got plenty of time to train into it, unless of course he gets sick of it first. As I recall, Carlos Lopes of Portugal was 37 when he won gold, and 38 when he set the world best.
