I had not seen this - thanks for posting. For major races, everyone tapers and tries to be ready for a major effort that day. In these less visible races (relative to Worlds and major marathons) its hard to tell who is not tapering and is "training through" the race on relatively heavy and tired legs. So its possible that both Hasay and Rupp are treating this like a hard tempo workout in the middle of the build up for Chicago, rather than an all-out effort.
However, if everyone is bringing their "A game" on Monday, I would expect Hasay to beat Sisson over 20K. Same with Rupp vs. rest of the field.
I said in a previous thread not to have too high expectations for Rupp and Hasay. They will be ready to race, but they won't be tapering too much for this. Even though its a USA National Championship, they will treat it like a hard training run. Winning Chicago would be by far the large largest purse Rupp has ever gotten. Even the appearance, finishing top American and top-3 will be a boat load of money. Chicago is the focus and everything else is just training and sharping.
