RE: USATF Announces 2020 Olympic Trials Marathon qualifying standards
The same requirements for 2016 will apply for 2020. You can qualify on a course that has the following specifications:
1. Any "separation". This is the straight line distance form start to finish.
2. A "drop" of 3.25 m/km or less.
Achieving the qualifying times on on one of these courses would get you to the trials but you would still need to get the time standard on a course with a "separation" of less then 50% and a "drop" of less the 1 m/km
Athletes may qualify at the Boston Marathon for the Olympics because it's an IAAF Gold Label Marathon - Top 10 finishers = the "A" standards. This might change in the near future.
