Keely has posted excellent 400m times this season so we knew she would go well in the 800m - but not this fast.
Same age group is Melany Smart (WA) just ran 9:17 3km. Both are running 1500m at nationals.
I wouldn't call that excellent (not compared to the 800 time), but it's very good. But it doesn't leave a lot of room for a drop in the 800. The 80 time is 2.21 times the 400 time. That conversion is at elite man level (better than Rudisha though he's more of a speed 800 runner).
If she's going to focus longer term on the 800, she needs the right sprint and strength work to get her 400 time down further. If she's focusing more on 1500 longer term, then the 400 speed is enough.
