RE: Breaking: Nike admits that its sub-2 hr attempt won't come on a legitimate course and won't count for a WR

I'm surprised no one is talking about shoes. If the course isn't record eligible, there is a strong possibility they have invented something that provides assistance via footwear, that is not legal in record races. We know the shoes Galen and the Nike ladies wore in the OLY marathon have something special in them that they haven't revealed. I also have not seen a single picture that anyone else has yet to race in these shoes, so if these shoes (which must be legal) have something that works in them, it stands to reason that the sub 2 hour crew will be wearing them. They also could have some spring loaded type stuff that is illegal like those Spira shoes a while back, etc. If they have footwear that can make you even 1-2% faster at the same effort, then it could easily be done on the right course in the right conditions. Again, if this isn't for record purposes, I would use an electric car with a wall bolted to it so the runners would have no air resistance, gaining another 2-3% (Larry Rawson anyone?) :) Slight downhill course, add in another 1-2%, it's easily doable for someone who can run 2:03 on a legit course now.

The last marathon shoes they made didn't work out so well.
