The key is what kind of basic speed do you have? Are you a guy that dominates workouts when your team does things like 400 repeats in cross country? If you have solid basic speed and are a guy that could run 2:00 in the 800, you might be able to get to 10:00 by May of next year. You'll still need to put in consistent miles all winter to improve your aerobic fitness a lot because as a high 17s 5k guy, you are still kind of far away from being a 9:59 2miler. I'll let others chime in on training details. Hope you have a healthy senior year and achieve your goal by the spring.
