RE: Is Rupp only 1:25 better than Ward in the marathon?
No to all of this. Rupp ran a tactical race to win and ran what the race dictated. Ward ran his best, even paced effort to PR. It just worked out that his PR got him with 1:30 of Rupp on that day. If they both show up at a rabbited affair on a cool day, there is no chance Ward is withing a 1:30 of Rupp. Shoot, just use the McMillian tables that everyone loves to use and put in 26:44 for Rupp and 1:01.42 for Ward (no 10 PR listed on his IAAF profile) Rupp 2:05.46 to Ward's 2:09.51. Big fan of both runners, but Rupp is on another planet compared to Ward with regards to foot racing. Even if you think Rupp isn't a sub 2:06 guy, hard to argue that he isn't capable of 2:07.00 or better.
