Reached out to two friends at ESPN. One is a reporter and one is a producer. Both said they would look into if a crew was sent to cover a TransCon attempt. Sorry that I missed this, but where and when - allegedly - did the ESPN crew shadow? It would likely be a three man, local freelance crew of a producer, camera and sound guy (no talent/reporter) hired to get B roll. They'd then package it back in Bristol or LA and air it as a human interest bit. Maybe if he'd "set the record" they would sit down with him in NYC to splice in or something. But date/location would help them in checking on if a crew was actually dispatched.
