There's nowhere he can run to that is closer than NYC that will count. From his own website: "Any two coastal cities may be chosen as long as their distance apart exceeds the 2,766 miles from Los Angeles to New York."
Since he started in L.A., any new city he chose would have to be farther away than L.A.
All of that business he was talking about in that Facebook video re: running 3,000 miles or 3,1000 miles or whatever is just nonsense and has nothing to do with the actual record attempt. It's pretty typical of how they've responded to every question: change the subject to something unrelated and more complicated.
