It would be an interesting poll to see what most non-runners would think about this:
Which is the more impressive running feat to you:
A) Run 100 miles in 24 hours.
B) Run 1 mile in 3:50:00.
The times could vary bu you get the picture. My gut says "A" will be the overwhelming top pick.
Obviously B. That's about 13:30 pace for 100 miles. I think most runners could at least get close to 24 hours at that pace. Thousands of Serious runners train for years and only a handful run 3:50 in the WORLD. Not even close. I would say 100 miles in 24 hours is comparable to 4:15 mile[/quote]
100 miles in 12 hours is probably a fair comparison with the 3:50 mile. Personally I think 100 miles in 24 hours is attainable by any 3:00 marathon runner who has the time to do it. and more akin to a 4:30 mile. Since I believe that any healthy male in their 20s could train to run a 3:00 marathon in 3-4 years then I cannot really give it more than that.
