I think it's getting obvious now he's slowing WAY down, and is not going to get the record, but he's never going to admit to cheating. He'll explain it by saying he went out to hard and then paid the price the second half. Or worse, that all the criticism caused him to lose focus and we're responsible for him slowing down and missing the record.
What is went out too hard like? When the ultra runner Ray ran with him and he showcased he could still run 7min/mile for ONE single mile. Then the next day (yesterday) he's paying for it--dropped to merely 40 miles/day from ~56 the previous day. He may have little sense of pacing already mentioned by those ultra dudes. But he got away with such erratic fast bursts of speed in the first half of the trip as he didn't need to run the claimed mileage and could recover very well as nobody was monitoring him. He's either mentally unfit or not very smart.
