I have a theory too
RE: Robert Young fakes run across America
A few obs and thoughts.
As he is primarily running at night, he has more restrictions on what he can and cannot safely do. Most/much of the route would be unlit.
He would need to run on a reliable and predictive section of the road, unlikely he would be on any grassy areas off the roadway, these are unmaintained, ungroomed and filled with hazards.
He would be in reflective clothing and likely wear a light, it would make him very visible whether ahead, behind or beside the van.
He wouldn't run next to the van for any length, this would be risky, particularly at night, maybe only occasionally to exchange info or fuel, water, etc. Most running would usually be a safe distance ahead of the van and using the headlight glow for seeing, but not out of sight. Maybe behind the van but this would be less beneficial for the runner and the road crew would have difficulty knowing the runners proximity if he's behind it.
The van would have no reason to drive at running pace unless directly accompanying the runner. I could see them parked at a contact point or during a rest period, or driving at traffic speed to catch up or detour for supplies, errands, etc. Driving slowly along the roads without the runner nearby would be a waste of gas and somewhat risky to the road crew and a potential hazard to other vehicles on the road.
I am curious where this venture is going to go.
