The splits look logical / make sense, unless each mile split somehow was 10 seconds off. Please explain.

I said in the thread a month or so ago (the Portage Invitational thread) that Grant shouldn't waste his time trying to go for that 14:10 CR. It will stand forever. Somehow, everything came together on that day... mainly the weather, but it was also his 4th time running the course, and he was in incredible shape.
That course can run super fast if there was no rain/snow leading up to the race. But to put the 14:10 in context a little, as a junior Ritz only ran 15:05 at the state meet. But then went on to a 14:55 CR at FLMW in Kenosha, and then won in 14:29 CR at FLN in Orlando.
As a senior, after going 14:10 at state, he went 14:35 at Kenosha, and then 14:35 in a more tactical FLN in Orlando. So Grant's Kenosha performance could be more telling on his fitness relative to Ritz as a senior. From all indications I've seen, he appears to be at least 20 seconds faster than last year.
And knowing how his coach approaches racing (preparing to win the big ones, as opposed to time trialing often), he's likely training through all these meets until FLMW.

Wrong, Dathan ran 14:35 on that same course as a junior, NOT 15:05. I was in the top 10 runners in THAT race, I would know. Where do you get your facts?[/quote]
