I would say that 8 x 200 would give let your body always stay in touch with 1500m speed. Thus it will not ever be a shock to the system. The hard VO2 stuff is more likely to damage your aerobic system if you do too much of it. But a workout of 5 x 600 around 3 - 5K pace would not be too stressful but still stress that system. I think a problem I have is I used to think all workouts had to be killer efforts. But it seems these shorter workouts allow the athletes to keep training at a higher level every day. Even if that day is just a solid 10mile run. Consistancy and touching all efforts seems very important. I think Seb Coe got to the point where what seem like killer workouts to us were just run of the mill to him. That is why not many people can fallow his stuff.
