Note that all photos of Kip are in the 2nd half of the race, you can tell by the water. It is an out and back course heading North up the peninsula on the East shore.
Kip had to pass me, doing the math it would've been around mile 4. I don't recall noticing Kip pass me but that is not definitive.
Mr. Gutierrez is possibly key. Doing the math shows Kip had to pass him in the 1st half and then he had to pass Kip back in the 2nd half. The photos show Mr. Gutierrez slightly ahead of Kip in the 2nd half. He would possibly remember this.http://results.active.com/pages/oneResult.jsp?pID=41884620&rsID=64898&pubID=3http://results.active.com/pages/oneResult.jsp?pID=41884619&rsID=64898&pubID=3http://www.backprint.com/view_user_event.asp?PID=bp%18yG&EVENTID=35298&PWD=&BIB=46
