RE: Footlocker High School runner wins Manhattan Half Marathon
I'm not anti-calculator, but I think we'd do well to remember that a 27 year old running 100 mile weeks for years running 1:10:25 is not the same as a 17 year old kid running 1:10:25. I'm guessing that someone still in high school isn't quite as aerobically developed as a hard-training post-collegian, and yet no running calculator is sophisticated enough to take into account varying levels of training "maturity" so to speak. 1:10:25 might only be "worth" about 4:24 in a well-trained, mature athlete, but I'd hazard a guess that Owens has more in the tank than what the calculator suggests.

I ran 4:20 for 1600 when I was 16, and there's no way I could have touched 5:22s for a half-marathon at 17. A 17 year old who can hammer like is impressive. I think this Owens kid has a lot of promise, and I wish him the best.
