It is a little odd that somehow, even with a pacer, that Willard said in her post interview that she knew the pace would be slow.
Rabbits never are used to slow down a race - NEVER. Usually, if there is a mess up, it's from going out too fast not way way to slow.
Perhaps the reason she thought it would be slow is because many of the marks over the 2 day meet were not particularly fast. Wind, weather, whatever. Perhaps the atmosphere of the meet was don't expect much. Also, if Monaco is supposed to be such a barn-burner, maybe there was a bit of letdown as they anticipated the next race. Maybe, for some reason, they didn't have confidence in the pacemaker.
