RE: 7 Weeks Post Op
I went for a follow-up with Dr. Hoadley today in Atlanta. I was a little concerned about the bump on the incision point, but he said everything looks good and to proceed with full rehab. I tried a standing groin stretch today; did not feel any pain and the hip tension that I had pre-surgery (for the last year) is now gone. I was worried that I had a labral tear also. My biggest problem appears to be my left hip flexor. Otherwise, I feel really good after two weeks... mostly I've been walking outside and on a treadmill with some light stretching. I still get a burning sensation when getting out of bed in the morning and sometimes after sitting for a while. But Dr. Hoadley said it is likely due to inflammation.
Regarding the splaying/widening of the conjoined tendon which was repaired... he said this is much like a tear and required a suture. But he did not have to re-attach anything. He is confident this was causing the problem.
While I'm still concerned about the mesh, I did ask a few questions that Dr. Hoadley answered... he said he uses the mesh because it stabilizes the repair. The mesh is paper thin. In addition, it prevents a future inguinal hernia. Obviously, many of us are very impressed with Dr. UM's results in getting back out there so quickly. But honestly, if it's just a matter of weeks we are talking about, it really doesn't matter to me as long as I heal properly and fully. So I don't plan on rushing it. I don't have any World Cup qualifiers or Stanley Cup finals to get ready for.
