RE: Ryan Hall coming into good shape part 2
You missed the point. HE NEEDS TO RUN WITH THE LEADERS. That means if the leaders go out at 62 minutes he MUST go with them. If that is too fast, then he is in trouble because he does not have the ability to come from behind. So in order to beat Cheryout he needs to be better through the hills than him. Does that sound possible?
Not to me.
Ryan Hall has run very fast in more than one marathon and is very good. He has won only one marathon and that was over a 2:11 second place. When the pace is fast he hangs in there and finishes 5th or he doesn't go with the leaders (like the Olympics) and then he is in real trouble.
Meb had a similar ability. He could hang in there real well but he could not close the deal. Several second and third place finishes but never a factor to win. Just ask Baldini.
Khalid always found a way to win. If there were five guys together late in the race, Khalid always seemed to come through. I know that he is only a shadow of himself today so please don't bring up the Olympic Trials.
I just don't see a scenario that has Hall crossing the finish line first. It is a great story and it will draw a lot of interest for the uninformed but his chances are no beter than Meb in 2006 or Deena in 2007.
