I ran on one for two months while I was injured. In my opinion, it most certainly does not count as running. Although the motion is the same, it just does not feel or have the same effect as regular running. Essentially, you wear neoprene half tights and the machine creates air pressure that lifts you up. I felt like it was more or less just sliding your feet. At about 80-85% of my body weight I could comfortably run 5:00-5:10. Once my injury healed and I finally got off that thing, 6:00/mile felt hard, not to mention I felt terribly out of shape. Maybe other people have different results, but I feel the thing is just a over-hyped $80,000 machine.
