About Lydiard being the first one to prescribe aerobic training this is a joke. Zatopec while training the famous twice a day that monster NON-STOP intervals like 20-30-40-50 some say 100X400m covering a total distance of 25 to 40kilos a day he did nothing but tons of aerobic training.
Simply he did that different than Lydiard. Or do you want to deny Zatopec sucess and many other success ?
When in 1964 Bob Schull did win the 5000m in Toquio Olympics over some Lydiard Kiwis he didn´t Lydiard method or do you think he did.

I see your point about Mottram, Coe, El Guerrouj or Shorter. They are all in the Lydiard method what else ?
