I swam for an Ivy League school in the same era (and qualified for two O trials in the 100 Fly). I swam multiple races against both Ferris and Spitz. Spitz never "sat" on Ferris. You are just displaying your ignorance of swimming. Spitz was an extraordinarily talented distance swimmer, particularly in the Fly. I and 3-4 other people could go out with Spitz for 50 meters, but couldn't touch him in the second half of a hundred, let alone a 200. Ferris was never in the same league with Spitz, and simply faded behind Spitz in 200s. Your statement is ridiculous.
