People focus waaaaayyy too much on mileage, not enough on intensity. It's those workouts where you're running on the brink of insanity that you make the most gains, not all the junk miles you run the rest of the week. I think workout weeks should be focused on hitting 1 or 2 workouts close to failure, not hitting arbitrary mileage numbers. You're body doesn't know how many miles you've run, just how hard you've pushed yourself.
