We sat right behind Mr. Allen and his family at Hayward during the 2016 Trials. They were all super friendly people and we shared some great conversation and laughs. Devon (and his friend from Texas A&M) came up and sat with them for a while, as well.
I remember at one point, Devon calling my mother "Ma'am" and my mother saying "You don't need to call me that, please call me (her name)". Maybe ten seconds later he did it again and said "Ma'am" and then quickly remembered and used her name. My mom looked at his parents and said "You raised a respectful young man, even if he doesn't listen" and everyone got a good laugh out of it.
RIP Mr. Allen.
On a related note, is Devon Allen still living/training in Annapolis, MD? That's a beautiful town and a really nice place to visit for a weekend (or retire to, but it's not cheap).
